The City of Huron is seeking a Solid Waste Foreman to assist in supervising daily operations of the Solid Waste Department. Under general supervision—and in the absence of the Superintendent—this position oversees transfer station, composting, and construction & demolition (C&D) operations and supervises staff involved in collection, disposal, transportation, and recycling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in supervising department operations and staff
- Ensure compliance with federal and state solid waste regulations
- Schedule and oversee vehicle and equipment maintenance
- Operate solid waste equipment including collection trucks, roll-off trucks, semi-trucks, baler, grinder, compactor, and compost turner
- Promote and enforce safety procedures
- Assist with employee recruitment and training
- May drive to regional landfill as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED; technical training in waste management preferred
- Six (6) years of progressive experience in solid waste or a related field
- Valid South Dakota CDL Class A with N Endorsement required
Work Environment:
Position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions, physical labor (lifting up to 75 lbs. with assistance), exposure to noise, chemicals, and other job-related hazards.
